Croatia today has behind him a rich history
2000 years ago part of the Roman Empire. Then long under the rule of the Venetians. From the Middle Ages around 500 years, part of the Austria-Hungary Empire, changing with parts of Italy properly. Then part of Yugoslavia, and for 30 years now Republic of Croatia. Until 1918, the name for Istria was "Austrian Littoral", and from Rijeka to the south in todays Dalmacia and the islands were "Hungarian Littoral".
Impressive buildings and sights - in Pula with the Roman arena, triumphal arch - the old towns of Porec and Rovinj, opera house and imperial buildings on the waterfront in Rijeka are just a few highlights.
